LATE SPORTING.

AUCKLAND HORSES FOR TRENTHAM.

The Cambridge trainer, W. J. M’Lean, is due to leave for Trentham to-morrow night with Prince Lu, Luminary and Lucess. The last-named was showing signs of lameness after competing in the Hunters’ Steeplechase at Te Awa* mutu on Saturday, but it is expected this will soon wear off. Prince Lu is reported to have trained on well since the Auckland meeting, and he should be a better horse at Trentham. Luminary never looked better than he did on Saturday, and he ran a good race in the Woodstock Stakes, the chief open event of the day. He appeared as though he would be very hard to beat when the field turned for home, but he ran a bit wide.

The Te Aroha trainer, G A Reid, will have only Marble King to represent him at Wellington, and he is booked to go south on Thursday night. Marble King has had two races recently. He led into the straight in the Visitors’ Handicap, six furlongs at the Great Northern meeting, he won the President’s Handicap, an open six-furlong event, at Te Awamutu on Saturday. At the last Wellington winter meeting he ran most consistently, being placed in two similar distance events and winning the Onslow Handicap on the last day. This horse is nearly at his best again and he should go well at Trentham. NOMINATIONS. WAIMATE HUNT CLUB.
