The toll of the terrific thunderstorm which visited Eastern Newfoundland on Thursday has now reached eleven. Lightning killed five at St John’s. At Lumsden, a fishing settlement, hailstones weighing as much as ten pounds bombarded the community, sinking thirty boats anchored in the harbour and smashing practically every roof and window in the village. Three fishermen clung to the bottoms of their boats until beaten to death by the falling ice.
