LATE SOCIAL NEWS.
Dr Mona Gow arrived by the ferry steamer this morning. WEDDING. GAZZARD—POPE. The marriage was solemnised this afternoon at St Michael’s Church, Oxford Terrace, of Aileen Amber, only daughter of Mr and Mrs C. E. Pope, St Martins, and Gilbert John, eldest son of Mrs Gazzard and the late Mr B. A Gazzard, of Opawa. The Rev C. Perry performed the ceremony and Mr Vernon Griffiths was the organist. The bride, who was given away by Mr C. H. Withers, wore an unusual frock of gold net The skirt, which drooped to the ankles at each side, was composed of tiny net frills which form ed wide panniers, and the sleeveless bodice was finished at the waist with a wide swathed sash of amber panne velvet;. Her gold net veil, patterned in true lovers’ knots of gold lace, was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom buds, and she carried a bouquet of violets and mignonette. The attendant bridesmaid, Miss Gladys Cornelius, wore a Tharming frock of pea green georgette, with a tight-fitting bodice and full scalloped skirt falling to the ankles. A short shoulder cape was edged with a pleated frill of the same material and she wore a wide-brimmed felt hat to match. Her bouquet was of violets and mignonette.
Mr Leslie Gazzard, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
After the ceremony a reception was held at Dixieland. Mrs Pope received the guests wearing a smart mole tailored ensemble with a fox fur and vieux rose felt hat. Mrs Gazzard, another of the bridegroom, wore a beige crepe de chine frock under a black coney seal coat, and a red Bangkok hat.
