SMITHY TO CALL TO SYDNEY TO-DAY
W2XAF TO BROADCAST CONVERSATION TO 2ME.
(Received June 28, 10.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 27.
Kingsford-Smith and his companions were entertained at luncheon by the Advertising Club. Responding to toasts, each seemed to be anxious to give away the credit for the success of the flight. Smithy said that his part was really small, and he gave the credit to the others.
Paddy, Saul, the navigator, told how on one occasion his navigation had the ’plane some 200 miles off his proper course. “ That’s how much help I was.”
Van Dyk, co-pilot, passed on the credit to the ’plane itself. Stannage, radioman, refused to speak, sajdng: “I am too full of emotion to say anything.”
Arrangements have been made for a short wave conversation to-morrow morning between Kingsford-Smith and his parents and, possibly, his fiancee.
The flyer, with his companions and Fokker officials, plan to fly here from Roosevelt Field in time to begin the broadcast at 6.30 in the morning (Eastern summer time). It is reported that Charles Ulm and Miss Powell, Kingsford-Smith’s fiaficee, will attempt to reach VK2ME for the broadcast fror- W2XAF.
The time of the broadcast in New Zealand will be ten o’clock to-night.
