OUTSTANDING FILM IS NOW FEATURED AT CIVIC
Talkies of the type of "The Last of Mrs Cheyney,” which commenced a season at the Civic Theatre yesterday are unfortunately only too few. For the strength of its theme, for its delightfully witty dialogue, and for the polished acting of the cast this production is outstanding. Norma Shearer, who plays Mrs Cheyney, gives a remarkably clever performance, ar.d, with the excellent support she receives from the other members of the cast, who are all well known, she does full justice to a difficult role. "The Last of Mrs Cheyney” is a story of London crooks, but it is so widely different from the usual run of such stories that it can be classed as one of * the finest talkie productions that have been shown in Christchurch.
The main supporting film is “The Man Higher Up.” One of the funny
Mickey Mouse ” cartoons, and a Pathe sound gazette complete the programme
