MYSTERY PICTURE IS NOW AT THEATRE ROYAL
"Tho Thirteenth Chair” heads the programme at the Theatre Royal this week, which is being celebrated as “birthday week.” Rivalling "The Thirteenth Chair” in interest are the glimpses of the test match at Dunedin. Flying snow and rain made photography difficult, but what is shown is most interesting and instructive. A fair idea of the trend of play can be obtained, even though the action is rather too fast. "The Thirteenth Chair” is a story of mystery and fake spiritualism, which combine to make it an absorbing film. Jt is well acted, as one would expect with Conrad Nagel, Leila Hyams and Margaret Wycherley in the leading parts. It commences with the efforts of detectives to locate a murderer, but during the course of their inquiries another murder is committed, in circumstances such that it seemed likely that the name of the murderer would be disclosed by a medium during a seance. Tho plot is highly successful and works itself to a logical conclusion. In add! tion to tho two features, an interesting programme of shorts is screened.
