OUR PET BANTAM.

We have a tiny 'bantam hen A dear little thing. It’s black all ever, with some specks Of white upon its wing. And when overturn the soil You’d love to see it run, The way it gobbles up the worms Is really rather fun. Sometimes it lays a little egg And hides it in the grass, But it is useless if you tread Upon it as you pass. At times we think that she is lost And search all round to see; To find at last she’s safely perched Right up the apple tree. H.H.
