(Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON, June 28. Lancer was a pronounced favourite for the Hinds Hurdles. Heisler led out from Royal Land, who fell at the first hurdle, while Zeuxis ran off at the second, where Pangolin was second. Pangolin retired six furlongs from home. Heisler led Lancer and Oriflamb to the straight, where Lancer drew out and beat Heisler easily by two lengths, with Oriflamb two lengths further back and Troilus fourth. Gay Fashion fell at the second to last hurdle. Fortalice carried more than twice as much support as Giggleswick in the Moreton Hack Handicap, and they had the finish to themselves. Valuator led Tariff, Fortalice, Kentish Lady and Giggleswick for about three furlongs. Giggleswick and Fortalice were in charge when the straight was reached, the former hanging on to beat the favourite by a head. Garvary, who finished well after getting off badly, was three lengths away, beating Sweet Refrain by a neck. Lily Bingen was easily better backed than George Rey in the Lyndhurst Trot. Kate Logan and Otaio Rose took charge at the start, leading along the back from Lily Bingen with Kautoma, Kensitas and Danny Boy heading the others. Otaio Rose led to the straight with Kautoma, Lily Bingen and Kensitas handy.. An exciting finish saw Kautoma beat Otaio Rose by a head. Kensitas was three lengths away, a neck in front of Lily Bingen, with Danny Boy next. Then came George Rey who finished fast. Limerick was then paraded in the birdcage. After cantering to the back of the course, he was allowed to stride along for about half a mile, being brought home by a Nightraid—Dutch Courage two-year-old. The champion, who was riddten by G. Humphreys, hit out in good style over the last part Royal Mint, Evening and Toawai were pretty evenly backed in the Mayfteld Handicap. Toawai soon took, fharge from Haze, Evening and Punch-

estown, but, after going three furlongs, Punchestown took third place. They ran like this to the straight, where Toawai and Haze retired. Evening went after Punchestown, who lasted long enough to win by half a head. Quarterdeck was three lengths away. Then came Royal Mint. The win of the local horse was popular. Radiate was a warm favourite for the Dromore Steeplechase. Tunamoe and Diamond Jack led to the second fence, where the latter fell, and a little further on Gala Day headed Tunamoe. These two led past the stand, but at the first of the double, Gala Day ran down the fence and French Fleet, who was just behind, fell. Going to the mile Post Wairio took charge, but fell at the next fence. Tunamoe then led. Gala Day was headed by Radiate half a mile from home. Tunamoe led over the last fence, but Radiate wore him down, winning by a length. Parader was ten lengths away and Gala Day fourth. No others finished. -

Though only four horses started in the Maronan Handicap it was a good race. The quartette ran in a line over a furlong when Subdivision . took charge. Rascal and First Raid joined him at the entrance to the straight and drew away together, Rascal winning by a short head- Subdivision was five lengths away and Revision several lengths further back. Real Girl was a hot favourite in the Winchmore Trot. Lady Zora was in front for half the journey, when Real Girl shot to the front, followed by Glenville. These two led Derry Pointer to the straight. The favourite failed to last out, and Glenville stalled off Derry Pointer by a length, with Real Girl a length' further back, followed by Otaio Rose Cranleigh find Princess Thea. WAIPA RACES. NOTES ON THE RACING. (Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 28. At Kauri Park, Sea Cob and Tern perature were withdrawals from the Ngaroto Hurdles, with which the day’s sport was commenced. Carlaris (£384), Daylight (£335) and Mountain Guide (£268), w’ere the best-backed, while Red Day only carried £lO9. Lupin Abbey, Wako King, and Daylight were the first to show out. Along the back. Red Day was in charge from Mountain Guide,. Oscar, Lupin Abbey and Daylight. Mountain Guide ran to the front across the top. attended by Oscar (who made a bad jump at the second to last fence), Red Day, Daylight and Lupin Abbey, and went on to beat Red Day by half a length. Quincomn was five lengths away thir4, fodowed by Oscar and Daylight. York Abbey was the only one that failed to parade for the Hunters* Steeplechase and after his good efforts at the great northern meeting the public entrusted the most support to Lucess, who carried £442. St Warrigal

(£335) and Mashoor (£325) were the next in demand. Passing the stands the first time Temperature was ;in front. Along the back St Warrigal joined Temperature, the pair being twenty lengths clear of the others, but Temperature made a bad jump at the fence near the five furlong post. When they ran past the stands the last time St Warrigal was followed by Spalpiko, Lucess, Mashoor and Spalupin. The order was the same along the back, across the top and into the straight, and St Warrigal went on to win by five lengths from Lucess, who beat Spalpiko by two lengths with Mashoor fourth. Cullgie fell at the first fence and Small Goods at the second.

The scratching of Dave, Helium and Kiwinui left a field of eleven to contest the Arapuni Handicap, and Te Hoia, who had the services of H. Gray, was most in request, carrying £755, while Takutama (£284) and Ohinemuri (£211) were the next best backed. Takutama, Maunga King and Te Hoia were the quickest to begin. The Jack Jumper being cut out at the start. Along the back, Takutama was pilot from Unoco, Te Hoia, Tristna, White Ringlet, Marble King and The Sun. Across the top, Unoco was in charge, with Tristna, White Ringlet, Takutama and The Sun next. Unoco was first to turn for home from White Ringlet, Takutama and Tristna, with Te Hoia a good way back. Gray then put in his claim and; riding in his best style, got Te Hoia up to win by a head from Unoco, who beat Tristna by two lengths and a half. Then followed Takutama, White Ringlet, The Sun, Micrometer and Ohinemuri. True Blood, Micrometer and Flying Prince were not saddled up for the Woodstock Stakes Handicap, the chief flat event of the day. Standfast, who was ridden by H. Gray, was favourite, carrying £713, with Eager Rose (£441) and Hannibal (£325) next in order of fancy. The public were very near the mark, for Eager Rpse finished in front of the other pair. Valstreet and Luminary were the first out, being attended by Eager Rosfc and Hannibal. The quartet were followed past the stands by Maori Boy and Barometer. Along the back Luminary and Valstreet were several lengths clear of Eager Rose, Hannibal, Maori Bo}', Barometer, and High Pitch, who were racing in that order. There was practically no change across the top, but Eager Rose ran to the front before the turn, being followed into the straight by Luminary, Hannibal, High Pitch and Standfast. Eager Rose had to be ridden right out to beat Standfast by three-quarters of a length, with Hannibal a similar distance away third. Then came High Pitch, Barometer, Maori Boy and Luminary. Master Lu (£611) was favourite for the Te Awamutu Steeplechase, for which Kauri Park and Town Lad were scratched. Airtight (£494) and Wako King (£156) •were the most fancied of the others engaged. Master Lu immediately went to the front and led past the stands from Wako King, Young Thurnham, Lucilius and Airtight, but the first named was pulling very hard and when they came round again he was about five lengths behind Wako Master Lu, Young Thurnham and Airtight and Lucilius next. Wako King wafe still in front along the back with Master Lu, Loung Thurnham and Airtight next. Wako King, Master Lu and Airtight were bunched at the second to last fence, but from then on Master Lu stayed on best to win by a neck from Wako King with Airtight three lengths away third. Young Thurnham was fourth with Lucilius next. This makes Master Lu’s third successive victory. for he won both the Greenlane and Tamaki Steeplechases in his two previous starts at Ellerslie. The withdrawal of Huhana, Warace and Kahakura left twenty-one to go to the post for the Hairini Handicap. Cruachan (£364) was the favourite, with Silver Division (£330) and Glenison (£315) next in request, while The Sun was only entrusted with £97. At the start Kiwinui dislodged her ►rider and took no part in the race, while Glenison whipped round as the tapes went up and he also did not run. Queenstown, Wild Country, Silver Division, Arcadian, Merry Lu, Principal Boy, Derry Belle and Cruachan were the most prominent when the field settled down. Crossing the top Merry Lu was in charge from Queenstown. Silver Division, Wild Country and Derry Belle. Merry Lu was still pilot as they turned for home from Silver Division, Wild Country, Queenstown and Land Measured Cruachan, who was a good way back, then put in his claim and, galloping in great style, got up to win by half a length from The Sun, who beat Merry Lu by a length. Then followed Wild Country, Arcadian, Land Measure, Dayfonn and Ruby Dawn. NAPIER RACES. Fer Press Association. NAPIER, June 2S. Burgess are already in Sydney with large teams for the spring meetings, and it will not be long before they are followed by other Dominion representatives. J. ’Williamson intends bringing Corinax, Tremetus, Rafflight and Gemlight, all of which were bred in Australia; J. Fryer will probably leave New Zealand after the Wellington meeting with his hurdler and steeplechaser Airtight, and a two-year-old; A. M’Aulay's team will probably comprise Nightmarch, True vShaft, ICnockany, Night Guard (rising two-vearrold brother to Phar Lap), Static and Water Polo (rising two-year-old half-brother to Agrion): T. Lloyd has arranged to bring Gay Crest, Adelphi, Middle Watch and Royal Doll, while 11. B. Lorigan's team Vrill probably comprise Concentrate, Gesture and a rising two-year-old. Whether F. D. Jones makes the trip depends upon Limeriok’s progress. In his work so far Limerick has done everything asked of him, and there has been no sign of a recurrence of the trouble that put him out of action last spring. If Jones decides to bring Limerick to Sydney again he will be accompanied by Arlkiwai and Paqu/f 0
