“LOVE NEVER DIES” AT EVERYBODY’S THEATRE.
“ Love Never Dies,” which heads the new programme at Everybody’s Theatre, contains some striking pictures of the war. Particularly does this apply to scenes depicting a combat between opposing squadrons of aeroplanes. There has been nothing better of the kind presented on the screen in Christchurch. Colleen Moore is the star of the piece, and playing opposite her is Gary Cooper. Patrons are introduced to the heroine in the role of a French peasant girl caring for a fighting .squadron of aviators. After being assailed by one of their number for being so careless as to get in his way, and cause him to turn his 'plane over while landing, she falls in love with him. A love match under such original circumstances must naturally develop into something powerful, and the thread of romance in “ Love Never Dies " has much appeal. The supporting pictures round off a good evening’s entertainment. “ In a Monastery Cellar ” is the best of these “ shorts ” —a pleasing quartet in suitable setting. Martinelli d'Angelo, the grand opera star, is heard in excerpts from old masters, rendered pleasingly and with good action. Origg and Maxwell give speciality numbers to the accompaniment of the ukulele. Altogether, the programme is a pleasing one.
