CHARACTER INVOLVES INTELLECTUAL PURSUITS.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 15.
That character involves something much greater and wider than mere outward behaviour and that it is closely bound up with intellectual pursuits, was the basis of the presidential address given by Mr Armour (head master of the Wellington Boys’ College) to the conference of the Secondary Schools’ Association.
There was a real danger in supposing, he said, that character training, as applied to the schools, was something apart from learning; and in their zeal to develop character, thejr might easily make the mistake of looking upon character training and success in intellectual pursuits as if they were incompatible; whereas they were closely interwoven.
