AWARD FOR TEA ROOMS EMPLOYEES NOW FILED.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 14. Taking effect from June 2, 1930, and continuing in force until June 2, 1931. the Dominion tea-room and restaurant employees award has been filed in the Arbitration Court. The award will operate throughout the Northern Taranaki, Wellington, Marl borough, Nelson, Westland, Canterbury, Otago and Southland industrial districts. Forty-eight hours is to constitute a week’s work and not more than eleven hours shall be worked on any day without payment of overtime. Expept in special circumstances workers shall not be brought back to work after their day’s work is finished until after an interval of at least eleven hours, and workers shall be paid at the rate of time and a half for the time by which such interval is curtailed. No female is to be employed after the hour of 10.30 p.m. in contravention of the provisions of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22. One full day’s holiday of twenty-four consecutive hours is to be allowed each week to every worker covered by the award. Employees who work on Christmas Day or .Good Friday are to be paid double rates for such work. Employees who work on Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Easter Monday, the Sovereign’s Birthda}’- or. Labour Day are to be paid time and a half rates. One week’s holiday on full pay on completion of twelve months’ continuous service is to be allowed all employees. Mr Justice Frazer, in a memorandum, said that a number of clauses were in dispute, most of which had been settled on the basis of the private hotels award. It has been decided to postpone the coming into operation of Clause 15_. (re time sheets) until the beginning of the first pay week in August- It is suggested that employers and the union will find it advantageous to agree in the meantime on a uniform form to be used, and the postponement of the operation of the clause has been decided upon for this reason.
