CHRISTMAS SEAL CAMPAIGN FUND.

MINISTER ANNOUNCES £2500; TOTAL TO DATE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 3. The inaugural Christmas seal campaign against tuberculosis in New Zealand organised at the close of last year resulted in £2500 being collected, which means that £SOOO worth of stamps was sold, half being retained by the Post Office as ordinary -evsnue. The funds raised this year, the Hon A J- Stallworthy says, will provide a nucleus for the establishment of permanent cliildred’s health camps. The damage rate of the disease, affecting as it does so many people in their earlier vears, is perhaps worse than the mortality rate. It was reported recently, he says, that there were twenty-seven notifications of tuberculosis weekly in New Zealand. There were initial difficulties in inaugurating the Christmas seal campaign and an unforseen delay in getting the stamps on sale. This no doubt affected the measure of success. However, the Minister said that he was gratified at the result and felt confident that this year it would be a'c least trebled.
