THIEF STOLE WATCH FROM UNDER PILLOW.
MAN WITH ALIAS GIVEN THREE MONTHS IN GAOL. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, April 3. On a charge of stealing a gold expanding wristlet watch, valued at £8 and 11s in money, the property cf Louisa I’Anson, of Timaru, Frederick George Smith, alias George John Burberry, alias George Norris Burburry, appeared before Messrs W. H. Rundle, J .P., and F. W. Watt, J.P., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Martin explained that the watch and the money were taken from under a pillow at the Winslow Hotel where the owner was a boarder. The accused was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, and an order was made for the return to the owner of the stolen property. Juvenile Court. At a sitting of the Juvenile Court yesterday, before Mr R. Clark, J.P., a girl, aged seventeen years, was charged with riding a cycle on the footpath and with assault by striking another girl on the face. She was placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Offi-. cer for a period of two years.
