ASHBURTON NEWS.
NEWLAND. Like most other parts, this district is much in need of a good rain. Grass is becoming scarce, while rape and turnips are practically a failure on account of the dry weather of the past weeks. Farmers are already becoming anxious over their supply of winter feed. Un less rain comes soon the outlook for stock will be very bad. Already as much stock as possible is being got rid of, so that the roads ars in a very dtisty condition. Crops proved very disappointing this season, having suffered severely from the spell of dry weather in the early stages of their growth. Mrs H. Tallott, Gust, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Donnelly, has returned home. Master Ivan Stevens, who has been seriously ill, is now recovering, but is still unable to attend school. A householders’ meeting will be held this month, and arrangements will be made for social evenings during the winter months.
