For publishing a double chart, Norman Towart, who pleaded guilty, was fined £2 and costs by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M» in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. * Chief-Detective Carroll said that on March 22 detectives visited the King George Hotel and found Towart in the har exhibiting a double chart. It was only a small one—£lo to 2s.
Sixteen bets at 2s each had beeu made, and if the defendant got the chart full he stood to win somewhere about £6O.
Towart was quite frank about the matter, and nothing was known against him previously. Towart said that it was the first time he had done anything of the sort, and he had never been in Court before. He had not received any money for the sixteen bets made; it was owing to him.
The Magistrate to the chief-detective “You will take charge of the chart." "Oh, yes," replied Mr Carroll.
