CANTERBURY PILOTS TO JOIN PAGEANTS.
LOCAL 'PLANES LEAVE FOR THE NORTH TO-DAY
Four ’planes left Sockburn this morn ing bound for the air pageants at Auckland, Hastings and Hawera. FlightLieutenant Burrell, with Mrs Burrell as a passenger, Flight-Lieutenant Buckley with Mrs Buckley, both flying D.FL Moths, left early this morning. Miss Aroha Clifford, in her Avro-Avian Cirrus 11., set out with them. FlightLieutenant J. C. Mercer, the Canterburv Aero Club’s pilot-instructor, with Pilot P. S. Taylor as a passenger, set out in one of the club’s machines'a little later It is expected that the 'planes will not proceed further than Rongotai (Wellington) to-day, and will continue to Hastings to-morrow morning. Pilot D. E. Grigg will leave by the boat for the Auckland pageant*, where he will be the Canterbury Aero ClubS representative in the race for the “New Zealand Herald” Cup on Saturday April 12. A Hastings message says: The following pilots will take part in the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aerc Club’s pageant at Hastings on Saturday next: Miss Aroha Clifford (Christchurch), Miss P. Bennett (Blenheim), lan Horton, Douglas Mill, G. M. Firth, Captains J. D. Hewitt, Saunders, Seabrook, Bloomfield and Lieutenant Allan, all from Auckland; Hamish Armstrong, Akitio; Captain Warnock, New Plymouth; F. R. Dix, Blenheim; R. S. Taylor, Captains C. Mercer. Bucklev. Burrell, from Christchurch; Captain Steadman, Wellington, and Captain White and Flying-Officer Olsen, of Hawke’s Bay.
