Softening Water. In districts where the water is hard, it is a good plan to add a pinch of bicarbonate of soda when making tea or coffee. This helps to neutralise the hardness and makes the water less injurious to the system. For washing purposes (toilet and otheiwise), water can be softened by adding a littie powdered borax. _
