NOEL RYAN SWIMS LIKE A CHAMPION
WINS STATE TITLES AT BIG BONDI CARNIVAL. (Special to the *' Star.”) SYDNEY, March 24. Magnificent swimming on the part of eighteen-year-old Manly youth, Noel Ryan, was the outstanding feature of the Surf Life Saving Association’s championship carnival at Bondi on Saturday. Noel Ryan performed the unparalleled feat of winning the State junior and senior surf titles, and was first home in the team’s championship. His victory in the senior title event was made more meritorious by the fact
that he had previously won_ the junior and teams’ events, while his toughest opponents, Tas. King (holder), and Owen Griffiths, ex-champion, had reserved themselves for the big event. North Bondi, for the first time, carried off the premiership pennant, by winning the rescue and resuscitation competition from North Steyne and Mowbray Park (Queensland). Bronte won the march past championship for the first time. North Steyne retained its senior boat laurels, while Manly retained the junior boat championship. After a great race, G. Proudfoot regained the senior belt title by heading Australian Olympic rep., Tom Boast (Mowbray Park) and O. Ryan (Thirroul).
