BOTH SIDES WILL HOLD CAUCUSES.
CITY COUNCIL POSITION NOT YET CLEARED UP
Until caucus meetings of the Citizens’ Association and the Labour members of the City Council are held, it will not be known definitely what will take place in regard to the chairmanships of the standing committees of the council. Mr A. S. Taylor, chairman of the General Committee of the Citizens’ Association, stated this morning that he hoped to call a meeting of the associations' nominees on the council almost immediately. He also proposed to call a meeting of the General Committee of the association for next week to discuss urgent business arising out of the byelection.
No official information could be obtained this morning as to the intentions of the Labour group on the council, but it is generally believed that there will be no attempt to carry on the administrative work of the council. The opinion is freely expressed in Labour circles that in view of the evident intention to unseat Mr F. R. Cooke from the chairmanship of the Works Committee, the Labour members should resign all the chairmanships and leave the Citizens’ Association councillors the responsibility of undertaking the administrative work.
