South Canterbury Races Will Start To-morrow.

GOOD FIELDS INCLUDE STRONG CONTINGENT FROM RICCARTON STABLES.

*i*he autumn meeting. o£ the South I ( anterbury Jockey Cluo will be commenced to-morrow and concluded on Saturdav. From a heavy list of nominations there has been a considerable weeding out, but excellent fields remain for all the events on the first day, while with the horses drawn from a very wide area, the racing should be unusually interesting. The first race will be started at noon. The following is the programme: — Noon. OTAIO HURDLES HANDICAP, of 150 govs. One mile and a ha lx. 1 ancer 11 - Guncase 9 2 Antrim Boy 10 8 Red Heather 9 l f:angitahi 9 7 Heisler Bona tic » 7 Exide 9 0 Whiffler » 7 After Ten 9 0 .'dime 9 5 Silver Light 9 0 Lancer, who heads the list, has done a lot of good work lately but he has not had a race since August, so he will be severely handicapped. Antrim Boy ran a sound race on the first day at Oamaru and he should be greatly improved. The Oamaru winners, Whiffler and Mime, will have to be reckoned with again, as they are very well. Of those lower down, Heisler will be racing over his favourite distance, while After Ten is an improving horse. Present form points to Antrim Boy and Whiffler racing well. 12.40 p.m. AUTUMN STAKES, of 120 sore. Five furlongs. cjjggleswiclc 8 8 Standard Rose 7 2 Tea Urn 8 S I’alada 7 9 Ttoval Limond 8 8 Totaloma: 7 9 >.ight Parade 8 8 Weatherby 7 9 Arrogant 8 8 Sleipner 7 9 lectic 8 8 Adelphi 7 9 ! Taragona s 8 Pink Paper 7 9 Appeal 7 9 Palmary 7 y Tea Urn showed promising form at Oamaru and must have a great chance over a furlong shorter. Appeal was second in the race won by Merry Peal and should be hard to beat here. Totolomai has a lot of speed, as has Sleipner, but so far they have failed as stayers. Adelphi is a newcomer, liable to be more than useful later on. On recent- southern form Tea Urn and Appeal look a likely pair. 1.20 p.m. TIMARL' CUP, Of 300 so vs. One mile and a. quarter. Hoy lake 8 13 Tardy 7 3 Pink Note 8 10 Stealth 7 3 Arikiwai 8 8 Starshooter 7 0 Topere 7 5 Don Jose 7 0 Hoylake ran a good race when he finished second in the Midsummer Handicap at Riccarton and he has done well since then. Pink Note should be an improved horse since the last time he raced, while Arikiwai is worth keeping in mind for an early race. Topere raced c onsistently at Oamaru, but he is meeting stronger opposition now, a remark which applies also to Tardy, the Waimate Cup winner. Stealth should run well if he produces his best form but he is uncertain. Starshooter has done well since he filled second place in the Peninsula Cup. while Don Jose, who was third on that occasion, followed it up with consistent form at Oamaru. Of the latter pair Starshooter makes the stronger appeal and he may be Hoylake’s most dangerous opponent. 2 P -m. TYCHO HACK HANDICAP, of 125 sots. Seven furlongs. Fair Money 8 12 Tariff 8 1 Quinopal 8 9 The Dov* 7 12 Valuator 8 8 Crossbow 7 11 Thomond 8 « Colonel Quex 7 11 Dry. Area 8 1 Poor Boy 7 11

Fair Money showed very attractive form when he won at Oamaru and he should run well again. Quinopal. from the same stable, may be reserved for a later race. Valuation will find seven furlongs too far, but Lord Thomond must have a great chance, on his Manawatu form. Tariff has been galloping in good style at Riccarton, while Crossbow has consistent form to recommend him. Lord Thomond and Fair Money should be hard to beat. 2.40 p.m. WASHDTKE TROT HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. Class 3.36. One mile and a half. Bessie Huon sc? June Nordica scr Gracile scr Upstart scr Hakari scr Valehead scr Jessie Huon scr Willie Derby scr Pleasant Le Thorpe 3 6 Wave scr John Noble 43 Of eleven acceptors, nine are on the limit. June Nordica, a recent winner, should show up prominently,’ while John Noble, from the back mark, will keep the limit horses very busy. 3.20 p.m. MAIDEN PLATE, of 120 sovs. Six furlongs. Solmurf 8 7 Tea Urn 8 7 Kentish Lady S 7 Punch sstown 8 7 Ealiance 8 7 Double Soult 8 7 Giggleswiclc 8 7 Bellbird 8 7 Charmeuse 8 7 Night Attire 8 7 Divinette 8 7 Coupling 8 7 Kentish Lady has been racing very consistently and she looks like being dangerous. Tea Urn has another engagement but will have to be seriously reckoned with if reserved for this event. Punchestown showed promise early in the season, as did Bellbird but recent form points to Kentish Lady and Tea Urn as a likely pair. 4 p.m. KERRY TOWN- HACK HANDICAP, of 130 sovs. One mile. Gay Crest 9 0 Quinopal 7 13 Salmo Salar 8 13 Miss Courtlike 8 5 Nightraid 7 7 Haze 8 4 Revision 7 1 Sailing Home 8 3 Miss Marco 7 0 Fair Exchange 8 2 Bow Line 7 0 Gay Crest has made a lot of improve- 1 meot lately and he looks certain to show up here. Salmo Salar is a useful southern hack, but Courtlike may be better over a shorter journey. Haze is uncertain in a big field, while Sailing Home has not fulfilled early promise. Fair Exchange won nicely at Oamaru but the extra furlong may trouble him. Quinopal is a solid customer, liable to improve. He and Gay Crest appeal most. 4.40 p.m. FLYING HANDICAP, of 175 sovs. Six furlongs. Gay Sonnet 9 1 First Raid 7 0 First Sight 8 9 Solgele 7 0 Silver Coot S 6 Arch Arrow 7 0 Arrowmir S 5 Mount Boa 7 0 Caterpillar 7 13 Tripaway 7 0 Buoyant 7 3 Ace of Hearts 7 0 Gay Sonnet came through her Oamaru engagements so well that she must be reckoned with again. First Sight is well and will be a winner soon, but he may need a race. Silver Coot registered an attractive performance when he won the Craven Plate at Riccarton 1 and only needs to repeat the form to be in the money again. Arrowmir is racing very consistently but Cater- ' pillar has no recent form. Buoyant is jin good fettle and may be dangerous. ; Of those on the minimum, Mount Boa ; and Ace of Hearts are a likely pair, ! but Silver Coot and Gay Sonnet may prove too good.
