VALUABLE SHAWL GIVEN TO CANCER COMMITTEE.

It is the intention of the Cancer Campaign Committee to ask the Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to rafflu a Paisley shawl as a work of art. The shawl, which is ninety years old, has been given to the campaign funds by Miss Elliott, and her sister, of lock, Marlborough, and it is to be disposed of in any way that the committee thinks fit.

A meeting of the Finance and Appeal Committee of the Canterbury Division of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign was held yesterday afternoon. Mr H. J. Otley presided, and others present were Drs P. C. Fenwick and H. T. D. Acland, and Messrs H. H. Holland, A. M. Burns, S. R. Evison, W. S. Wharton, H. Lightband, and E. H. Wyles, secretary-.

Mr Lightband reported that addresses given to the employees of industrial concerns had been listened to attentively, and lists for donations had been deposited. Mr Wharton said that the people of Akaroa were sympathetic towards the movement, and had promised their support. Mr Lightband stated that the Christchurch Professional Musicians’ Orchestra would give its initial concert in aid of the funds, in the Radiant Hall on April 15. The sum of £lO was voted for ad\ Tertising purposes.
