Maori Words .

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —As a stranger to your country I have been listening in to-night to two Maori songs, and I am a little mystified on a point of pronunciation. Your announcer used the word “poi” to rhyme with “doughy,” whereas I was under the impression during my stay at Rotorua that it rhymed with “coy.” Do the local Radio Broadcasting Company’s announcers speak as authorities on this subject, or are there Maori dialects accounting for variations?I am., etc. F.J.C.
