SMITH AND SHIERS FOUND BY MOTOR SEARCH PARTY.

City Of Sydney Is Expected At Wyndham This Afternoon.

(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received April 1, 1d.30 a.m. ) SYDNEY, April 1. The missing airmen, Messrs D. Smith and R. W. Shiers. and their ’plane, the City of Sydney, were found near Argyle Station, 80 miles south-east of Wyndham, by a party led by Sergeant King. They were badly in need of food. The City of Sydney is expected to reach Wyndham to-day, after repairs to the machine have been effected. First advice that the airmen were safe was received in Sydney by Mr W. R. Felton, a private radio experimenter, who reported yesterday afternoon that he had received a message from Wyndham stating that Messrs Smith and Shiers had been found and asking that the civil aviation authorities be advised. Eater confirmation of this message was received from Perth, the message stating that the flyers had been found at E4O p.m. by Sergeant King’s motor party, which started out from Broome. A radio message was next received from Mr Smith, who was at the Wyndham Meat Works, at 2 p.m., saying: “We were found by King’s party. All O.K. Thanks to Station VMZAJ. Signed- — Smith.” I hroughout the week-end, search parties vainly combed the whole region where Smith and Shiers were supposed to be, and yesterday search by air had begun. Aeroplanes from West Australian and Queensland air services had set out, and a number of well-known pilots, including Lieutenant C. T. P. Ulm and Captain Holden, were making preparations to join the search. A runway is being cleared at Wyndham for the ’plane to take off on the first stage of the flight to England.
