TRAMWAY MATTERS UNDER DISCUSSION.

The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday, Mr W. Hayward presiding. Present: Messrs E. H. Andrews. 11. Pearce, J. A. Flesher, J. Wood, W J. Walter and D. Sykes. The Municipal Association advised that it could not lower its affiliation fee of £2O. The letter was received. For the financial year commencing on April 1, the following insurance quotations were accepted: Buildings, plant, electric cars, etc., New Zealand Insurance Company on behalf of the Associated Companies and the State Fire Office; buses, New Zealand Insurance Company and the South British Insurance Company jointly; lorries, delivery van, tower waggons and motor-cars, Lloyds; passenger lift, New Zealand Insurance Company. The tenders of the Vacuum Oil Company and the Atlantic Union Company were accepted for the supply of fifty tons each of penetration bitumen. The Works and Traffic Committee reported that the Spreydon Burgesses’ Association had made application for one of the trolley buses to be allotted for use in West Spreydon. The association had been advised that this matter would be reviewed when these buses are operating. The committee also reported that the Christchurch City Council had forwarded the opinion of its solicitor that the board was responsible for the maintenance of the bridge structure as well as the tramway portion of the roadway over the Colombo Street Bridge. The board’s solicitors, however, maintained that the board was not responsible for the under structure and the council has been so advised. The report was adopted.
