MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.). Arthur Thomas Hughes, aged 42, and Harry De Courcy, aged 30, were fined 20s and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, for casting offensive matter in a public place. TRAFFIC CASES. For not having a tail-light on his car, Edward O. Broome was fined 10s and costs. On a similar charge with respect to his motor-cycle, Leonard V. Clarke was ordered to pay costs. Horace G. Smith was fined 10s and costs for failing to have head and tail lights on his motor-cycle. For cutting a corner, Phyllis B. Montgomery was fined 20s and costs. Frederick Best made a voluntary appearance on a charge of parking his car over the time limit, and was fined ss. BREACH OF PROBATION. Alfred George Macdonald, for failing to comply with the terms of his release on probation, was sentenced to a period of reformative detention not exceeding two years. MAINTENANCE CASES. (Before Mr H. For disobedience of a maintenance order, William Page was convicted and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided arrears are paid off at the rate of 255, in addition to the amount of the current order. Trelby Stalker was convicted and sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment on a similar charge. On a similar charge, George Whitta was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, with hard labour, the warrant to be suspended provided arrears are paid off at the rate of ss, in addition to the amount of the current order. Arthur Roy Brewer was. convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labour, on a similar charge, the warrant to be suspended so long as arrears are paid off, in addition to the amount of the current order. Similarly charged, George Thomas Lusty was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour, warrant to be suspended so long as arrears are paid off at the rate of 10s, in addition to the amount of the current order. Sidney Lloyd Taylor was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, with hard labour, on a similar charge, the warrant to be suspended provided arrears are paid off at the rate of 12s 6d week, in addition tc current maintenance.
