Some interesting relics have been recovered from the wreck of the Union Company’s s.s.‘ Hawea, which went ashore at the port of New Plymouth on June 12. 1888 (says the Taranaki “Herald”). The latest is a quantity of cutlery which was recovered by the Harbour Board diver (Mr W. Hearn) on Saturday last. Although the knives, spoons and forks are in an excellent state of preservation, the box in which they were contained has had marine growths enter into its composition. The cutlery, with a metal jug and candle stick, also recovered from the wreck, is to be presented to the New Plymouth Museum.
