“THE DESERT SONG" AT THE CRYSTAL PALACE.
“The Desert Song” has been brought to the screen in such a manner that it reflects the greatest credit on the producer. In many respects the picture exceeds the play that proved such an attraction in Christchurch a few months ago. Brilliant settings, tuneful melodies and wonderful acting combine to make the picture a success. The sing.ing, indeed, has been made a. feature of the production. Tt abounds in good songs and choruses and none of these ever fails to charm and captivate. Some of them are familiar to every musiclover; all are characterised by high quality. The whole piece is full of colour, action, and impressive dramatisation. Mr John Roles as the Red Shadow, is just what the mysterious, elusive lender of the hard-rid-ing Riffs in French Morocco should be. Miss Carlotta King is delightful as Margot Bouvalet, who follows her lover to Morocco from Paris. .Ml the songs and choruses of the original operetta are ruproduced. There is a good supporting programme.
