The Railway Commissioners have decided to amalagmate the engineering branches, involving the retirement of Dr Bradfield, chief of the metropolitan railway construction, and Mr F. Wickham, chief of the railways and tramways construction. The joint branches will be placed under Mr Rankin, engineer-in-chief of the existing lines. Dr Bradfield retains his position as engineer-in-charge of the harbour bridge construction.

The amalgamation makes possible considerable administrative economies.
