FINE PROGRAMME AT THE NEW OPERA HOUSE.
The current programme at the Opera House by Jim Gerald and his capable company, is pleasing large audiences. For the first half the scene is laid “On Our Selection,” with the characters shining in their civilian posts, on the land. The situations are alive with opportunities for humour, and deftly turned to account bv Jim Gerald and his talented associates. Jim acts as Muggins, a roustabout, Tom Dale as a .Jackaroo, Howard Hall as the overseer. Dan Weldon as the cook, Ronnie Shand and Reg Hawthorne as station hands, and Lily Coburn, Letty Craydon, Linda Foy and Joan Graham all have appropriate parts. The musical numbers are excellent. The second act sees the scene transported to the battlefield, and the company treat the audience to an excellent selection of that breezy humour which has become associated with the troops. There is a little pathos in their performance, but for the most part they stress the bright side and bring it home well. The characters show up in a different setting, but their characteristics are well kept up and cause the audience endless amusement.
