MUCH FOREIGN GOODS ARE BEING DUMPED.

BRITAIN THE ASH-PIT FOR WHOLE OF THE WORLD.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)

LONDON, February 10. There are doubts whether Mr Philip Snowden, Chancellor of the Exchequer, will continue the M’Kenna Duties, that have been safe-guarding from stagnation a number of hitherto prosperous industries, including gramophone and piano making, wireless valves and the glove trade. The Japanese are now dumping shirtings into Manchester, even ready-made shirts, causing fears of further unemployment. One firm declared that Britain was the ash-pit for dumped goods from all over the world. Italy has begun to dump woollen goods, subsidised by the Italian Government, which are under-cutting British produce. Replying to a recent deputation, Mr Snowden said that if the M’Kenna Duties were lifted, he would make a refund of duty paid on goods already in stock, but he would make no further declaration.
