MEETING WILL PROTEST AT REMOVAL OF LINE.

Considerable interest is being taken by residents of North Papanui, Northcote and Styx in the public meeting to be held in Waimairi County Council Chambers to-night for the purpose of protesting against the proposal of the Tramway Board to remove its track between Papanui and Northcote Road. The matter came before the Tramway Board at its last meeting, when it was decided to defer taking any action until a meeting of residents of the districts affected was held. The Works and Traffic Committee reported to the board that the line was now worn out and to renew it would cost £12,500. The committee did not recommend that it be renewed, but that the old line be removed, and a feeder service between the terminus and Papanui, to be run either with a trolley bus or petrol bus, be provided. The Highways Board was waiting for the board’s decision, as the former intended to reconstruct the road. The committee recommended that steps be taken to obtain the necessary authorising Order-in-Council.
