WERE ARRESTED AFTER VISIT TO A PIE-CART.
In the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., Frederick David Reilly and Jack Menere were charged with fighting in Colombo Street on February 2. Reilly pleaded guilty and Menere not guilty. Constable Jamieson said that on Sunday, at 2 a.m., he found the accused fighting in Colombo Street. Both men had had liquor. Witness gave them a chance to separate, and then arrested them. Menere said that he was returning home from a pie-cart when two men accosted him. After some talk, he was attacked. Witness put some pies on the footpath and held one of the accused. Then the constable came up and arrested them.
The Magistrate to Reilly: Are you sober now? Accused: Sober now!—Yes. I had been to a bit of a party and had had a few drinks. I don’t remember what happened. Reilly was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. The charge against Menere was dismissed.
