PARK BOARD DECIDES TO URGE WAR ON GOATS.
A real war on goats, with Government aid, is being pressed for as the result of councils of war held by the various committees of the Egmont National Park board. The chairman of the South Taranaki Committee, at a recent meeting said that progress in extermination of the goat evil was far too slow, and that the Government should help acceleration of what was a national matter.
“I am satisfied we cannot be too keen on the destruction of goats,” declared Mr J. Cocker, who said that in the Mangamingi district, where a few years ago there were no goats, there were now 750 goats or more. They had done great harm in the bush. The Park Board’s ranger had shot about fifteen hundred to date, it w*as said, and the board was doing its utmost to clean the mountain of the menace with the funds at its disposal.
