ATHLETIC CARNIVAL FOR ENGLISH PARK.
On Wednesday night at English Park a big cycling and athletic carnival will be staged. The programme will consist of motor-paced racing, championships and handicap cycling, running events in which J. D. Fitt and Lynch Cooper, the world’s champion professional runners, will make their final appearance, and novelty events. After his defeat by W..T. Weir on Saturday night, S. A. Jordan has challenged Weir to a return motor-paced race. This race will be held over seven miles, the pacers being T. R. M’Cleary and S. L. Ogden. The ten miles Australasian cycling championship has drawn a large and representative entry the nominations including Phil O’Shei. the idol of the cycling fraternitv, W. T Weir, J. R. I’Anson, L. W. Hill—ali champions—and several other prominent performers, including E. B. Taylor the Temuka crack rider. Special conditions regarding lap prises will ensure a fast and interesting race.
