Private Thomas Dinesen, a Dane, is the only foreign holder of the V.C. \\ hen the war broke out he was anxious to fight against the Germans because they had taken from Denmark the province of Schleswig-Holstein. Dinesen tried to join the British army in Denmark, but he could not. so he went to Canada. He joined the Quebec Regiment, and he was transferred to the Black Watch, and they put him in kilts.
