steamer reaches PORT BADLY BUFFETED. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright.} (Received January 7, 1130 a.m.) BRISBANE, January 7. The Weather Bureau reports that the cyclone is declining in intensity, but that serious flooding is threatened in the Herbert Valley and Johnston rivers following torrential rain, which in many places has been recorded as over ten inches for 48 hours. Mosman registered 12i inches. Buffeted for 24 hours by the cyclone, the steamer Morinda reached Cairns nine hours late. The wind reached a velocity of 85 miles an hour. The cabins and saloons were flooded. Fears are entertained for the safety of a fishing party aboard a launch which left Cairns on Friday for Moore Reef, where a lugger was wrecked on Saturday morning. All low-lying places north of Cairns are flooded. The mail train reached Townsville through water which was a foot over the rails in many places.
