TRAMS ON WRONG SIDE OF COLOMBO STREET.

Trams for St Albans Hark and the Street terminus ran on the wrong side of the road in Colombo Street North to-day. This was caused through the track on the western side of the street being closed for relaying. A pointsman was on duty in Colombo Street between Gloucester Street and Armagh Street, switching the out-ward-bound cars on to the line on the east side of the street. They ran along this side of the street to Peterborough Street, where they again switched on to the correct line. No bad delays were caused by this change-over, the only inconvenience being that passengers for the north had to stand in the middle of the street to board cars. However, a tramway inspector and a City Council traffic inspector were handy, watching the traffic and making it reasonably safe for passengers to board the cars. Th§ trams will continue to run in this way for some days until the reconstruction of the track and the widening of Colombo Street bridge have been completed.
