A magnificent casket containing a brilliantly illuminated address was Auckland’s parting gift to the Gover-nor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson. The address is in book form, and has covers made of New Zealand woods, reports the "Auckland Star.” In the centre panel is inlaid the city coat of arms, surrounded by Maori scroll and rafter patterns, which are also inlaid in many kinds of New Zealand woods, the principal of which are kohekohe, tawa, kowhiwhi, rewa rewa, mapau, pukapuka. whairangipiro and pohutukawa. The inside of the covers is also elaborately fashioned in porokaiwhiria, kohekohe, puriri. and matai in the borders, and the centre panel is probably one of the finest pieces of figured totara that has been found in the Dominion. It was originally discovered in the Taupo Totara Company’s bush in the vicinity of Lake Taupo, and has been in store for twenty years. The illuminating of the address features the principal Maori arts and carvings, and is richly embellished with burnished and matt gold work. Landscapes and views of Auckland City in water-colours are other striking characteristics. Many woods of rare beauty from New Zealand forests are contained in the inlaid and richly-carved casket. THE WEATHER FORECAST. The weather will have its usual changes this summer, first hot, then cold—cold-catching weather. Be preserved from cold by taking Pulmonas, the sure relief from colds, coughs, sore throats, asthma and bronchitis. Keep them by you. Pulmonas, Is 6d and 2s Gd. from chemists and stores. 7
