Greymouth Trotting Club Stages Good Racing.

CANTERBURY HORSES WIN EVERY RACE ON SATURDAY’S PROGRAMME

(Special to the “ Star.”) GREYMOUTH, January 4.

The summer meeting of the Greymouth Trotting Club opened in dull and showery weather. The track was holding for the first three races, improving later. A large crowd was present. The totalisator figures showed an increase of £IBO3 on the corresponding day of last year. £14,498 going through, against £12,695: In the Guinness Handicap defections were Lou Lee, Dusty Miller, Liberty Hall, Happy Land and Halswell Queen. The race took place some time after a shower, but the track was soft. Dusolina started smartly, followed by Somerby, Ulm and Charlie Lincoln. Enrolment and Guy Denver failed to get into their stride. The order remained unchanged throughout the round and at the stand Dussolina, Somerby, Ulm ard Charlie Lincoln were in front from bilverwood. Bingen Wilkes and Myrtle Dillon, Nelson Gara being well behind, with Guy Denver a poor last. This order was maintained for the next half mile. Then Ulm shot to the front about two furlongs from home. He went on to win easily by six lengths from Silverwood. with Charlie Lincoln three lengths away third. Myrtle Dillon was fourth. With Bonny Audubon, Osgood, Esbine, Dilfashion. Merry Peter and Golden Spray out of the Express Handicap, thirteen started. White Satin, was made favourite by 177 tickets from Rapture, with Great Way also well supported. Childe Boy was the first to show out and led Tiny Author, Chancet. White Satin and Duco in the early stages. Kitty Patch started indifferently, but soon paced nicely and made up leeway, while Great Way failed to get into his stride. Childe Boy was, well out after covering naif a mile and led the field all the way to-the last two* furlongs. Rapture displaced Kitty Patch. Entering the straight Rapture challenged the leader, who failed to respond. Rapture went on to win by three lengths from Childe Boy, with Kitty Patch six lengths further back. The favourite, White Satin, was fourth. The first saddle event, the Electric Handicap, caused a good betting pool, with the winner carrying 340 tickets more than Audience and nearly twice as much as Royal Iroquois. The fast drying track was by this time in good order. Teremoa started smartly and led from Royal Iroquois, Guy Pointer and Yal Logan. Along the back Audience took the lead from Teremoa and Yal Logan. At the top of the straight Teremoa ran to the front and beat the tiring Audience by two lengths, with Yal Logan four lengths away. Salient, who started badly, was fourth. In the chief event, the Dominion Handicap. Shady Spot was the public’s first choice, being 13-3 tickets better fancied than the winner, with Danny Boy and Eugene de Oro in considerably less demand. Thorpie piloted Glenrowan. Black Wattle and Editor over the first half-mile. Along the back the leader went further to the front and Black Wattle passed Glenrowan. Entering the straight Kreisler replaced Editor in fourth position. Going out of the back .straight on the last round, Kreisler went to the front and Eugene de Oro shot through fast and headed Glenrowan and Thorpie. Editor hung on in third position. When they headed for the post Kreisler held command of the situation and went on to win easily by three lengths from Eugene de Oro. who was gamelv challenged by Editor. Editor was beaten by a length. Glenrowan was fourth and Black Wattle fifth. In the Summer Handicap Nelson

Parrish was backed eighty-four tickets better than Olive Nelson, and 145 better than Oval, with Great Way carrying thirtv tickets less. Dillon S. was first to the front, but when they had settled dowil the favourite was showing the way and led past the stand from Dillon S. and Tot Logan. Dillon S. broke along the back stretch. At the six furlongs Nelson Parrish was well out in front of Dillon S. and Great Way, with Oval fourth. Great Way broke, and Rose Audo went up to the . front, followed by Tot Logan, Great Parrish being third past the post. This order was maintained over the next three furlongs. In the straight Tot Logan responded well and won by three lengths. Oval being just able to get up to beat Rose Audo by a head into second place. Olive Nelson, who had behaved badly, was fourth.

For the Intermediate Handicap HappA' Land, Ulm, ITarold Lee and Millie de Oro were scratched. The Great Author-Sedmere bracket was sixty-one tickets less favoured than Kate Logan, while Halswell Queen and Ratloc were within a few of each other. Ratloc was first to show out, followed by Great Epsom, with Lady Bee next, on the rails. Passing the stand Great Epsom led from Ratloc, Cranford, Llewellyn and Lady Bee. Along the back Cranford changed places with Ratloc. When passing the stand again the order was Great Epsom, Cranford. Ratloc, Firebrand and Halswell Queen, all well up. At the back Ratloc raced on even terms with Great Epsom and went to the front across the top. Kate Logan made up a lot of ground in the straight, and the order past the stand was Ratloc, Kate Logan, Denver Hinds and Halswell Queen. Denver Hinds went up fast along the back, and Chancellor Boy reached fourth place. Ratloc led round to the straight, where Kate Logan and Halswell Queen challenged. A good finish ensued, Halswell Queen gaining the verdict bihalf a length from Kate Logan, who accounted for Sedmere by three lengths. Ratloc was foutrh. In the Grey Yalley Handicap saddle race, pencillings were Audience, Auto Minto, Lady Oran, Bingenwood, Yican and Sonoma Child. Denver City was made the hottest favourite of the day from the Silver Sea-Loco bracket, with Bessie Dillon a good deal less fancied. Harold Lee was first out, followed by Myrtle Dillon. Brook Pointer and Dorie. The leader was challenged by Dorie in the second round, but-- the order was much the same until two furlongs from home, when Silver Sea shot to the front. In the straight, however. Brook Pointer came up on the inside and won by two lengths from Silver Sea, with Loco four lengths away third. The next to finish were Dorie, Harold Lee and Kawana. The smallest field of the day contested the Dash Handicap, withdrawals being Ilaydock, Pet Locanda, Shady Spot, Flora Golding. Baron Bingen, Sir Guy and Kreisler. Despite the penalty of 12yds which placed him on 36yds, Royal Comrade was sent out a hot favourite, with Cushla d’Or next in demand. The favourite refused to settle down, losing much ground after the start. Glenrowan made the early running, followed by Cushla d’Or and Black Wattle. Passing the stand again, Glenrowan still led, but Eugene de Oro was moving up. The field strung out in the last half-mile, and Cushla d’Or went on to win easily by three lengths from Glenrowan, with Eugene de Oro a similar distance back third. Black Wattle was fourth, and i the favourite was well back.
