BEAUTY AND THE LOOKING-GLASS.

SIMPLE REMEDIES FOR DEFECTS. THE RIGHT ROUGE. If your hair looks lank and seems to have lost its usual tint and gloss, try adding a trace of cloudy ammonia to the last rinsing water after a shampoo. -This will help to restore life to the hair and make it more “manageable” when dry. Poor, straggly eyebrows may be greatly improved by a nightly massage with a mixture of castor oil and eau-de-cologne in equal proportions. Try to train the brows as you wish them to grow when applying the lotion. Should your neck be discoloured, rub it each night with a teaspoonful of sour milk, to which has been added one drop of tincture of benzoin. Allow the skin to absorb as much of the moisture as it will, and wipe off the surplus with a piece of old silk. To cure blackheads and blotches, bathe the face with hot water for five minutes, dry lightly, and apply a lotion made up of one teaspoonful each of precipitate of sulphur, tincture of camphor and pure glycerine, with four ounces of rosewater. Use the lotion last ’ thing at night, and rinse it off before washing next morning. For lines under the eyes the best remedy is raw mutton fat. Put a small lump of the fat into an egg-cup, melt it near a hot fire, and pat it in while it is still warm. Those who find the smell of mutton fat intolerable, may use cream instead, though this is not so good. Be sure your rouge is the right colour, and be careful how you apply it. If j r our face is full, the colour should be high up on the cheeks so that it blends with the colour of the eyes. Unless your eyes are very big, avoid a brilliant rouge. If you are a blonde you will find a geranium tint very satisfactory; if your hair is inclined to red, a coral shade will be better, while if it is 'lark, a brunette rouge should be chosen.
