FIRE AT TAUMARUNUI CAUSES MUCH DAMAGE.
Per Presu Association. TAUMARUNUI. January 6. Fire broke out in Manuaute Street at 3.15 this morning. A building owned by A. G. Riches and occupied by Everybody’s Motors and J. Pettiaon. saddler, was gutted, practically all the stock carried by both finns being destroyed. The alarm was given by three engineers who were working in the King's Picture Theatre nearby. The flames rose high in the sky and a large crowd of spectators assembled. The brigade did good work in saving the ‘theatre, which was several times on ifire. Films worth £ISOO stored in tho ‘theatre were removed. ‘ Another outbreak at 6.45 was quickly ‘ extinguished. ‘ The insurances are: Building, £3“) in the South British ofiice: Pattison'l stock and fittings, £4OO in the London. Lancashire and Globe office; Everybody's stock, insured in the Phoenix office: amount not available.
