MR W. J. WALTER THANKED FOR LOCAL BODY WORK.
Mr W. J. Walter, who has represented the Avon district on the Christchurch Drainage Board for the last twenty-four years, met a very large number of his friends and supporters in the Mairehau Hall on Friday evening. Mr J. L. Parish, who presided, spoke of the splendid work Mr Walter had done during his term of office. He stated that the large number present showed the confidence which was placed in Mr Walter by % the electors, and said he had received several apologies from electors from all parts of the district w r ho were prepared to help in the event of an election. Mr P. Blades moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Walter for the able manner in which he had carried out his duties on the board. This was seconded by Mr A. F. Lange. Mr Walter gave a short address on Drainage Board matters, after which Mr A. W. Moore moved and Mr E. J. Buxton seconded the following motion: “That this meeting has full confidence in Mr Walter as its representative, and that all present form themselves into a committee to secure his return.” Mr J. L. Parish was appointed chairman and Mr A. W. Moore secretary.
