HINTS TO BATHERS.

(Written for the “Star” by Beltman.) Even for those who are unable to swim, or are only moderate swimmers, there are times when it is quite safe to enjoy a dip in the breakers. When the tide is coming in there is very little danger except from the back wash, and as non-swimmers seldom ven ture out far enough to be carried off their feet this should not worry them. Those more likely to be affected are the moderate swimmers who are out a bit further and feel the pull on their legs after a breaker has run up the beach and the water recedes. This pull is only on the bottom and if bathers start swimming directly they feel it, instead of endeavouring to walk, they will find that the next bleaker will assist them to safety. To take advantage of incoming tides the following hours of bathing should be observed on all the beaches. To-morrow from about 3 p.m. till 8.30 p.m. Monday from about 3.30 p.m. till 9 p.m.
