NOMINATIONS FOR WAIMAK. TRUST.
CONTESTS FOR ONLY TWO SUBDIVISIONS. Contests will take place in only two of the five subdivisions for which commissioners are elected to the Waimakariri River Trust, no election being necessary in Waimakariri West, Eyre and Cust. Nominations closed with the Returning Officer (Mr C. W. Hervey) at noon to-day, and, as was expected, polls will be necessary in only the central subdivision, which includes the whole of the city, and the Waimakariri East subdivision. For the Central subdivision five candidates have been nominated for four seats, and for Waimakariri East there are two candidates for one seat. The Citizens’ Association has put forward four candidates for the Central subdivision, Sir Francis Boys and Messrs J. A. Flesher, G. Gould and A. Manhire, while Mr C. E. Cross, chairman of the Waimairi County Council, has also been nominated as an independent. Mr Gould has been selected by the Citizen’s Association to take the place of Mr F. W. Freeman, who has retired from the trust. Messrs W. G. Chapman and W. P. Spencer are contesting Waimakariri East, the sitting Commissioner, the Hon G. Witty, M.L.C., having retired. Mr Spencer was a member of the trust for many years, but was defeated by Mr W T itty at the election three years ago. Messrs J. Leslie, R. O. Dixon and H. E. Evans have been re-elected unopposed for Waimakariri West, Eyre and Cust respectively. Polling in the Central and Waimakariri East subdivisions will take place on Tuesday, January 14, ratepayers only being eligible to vote. The nominations are as follows: CENTRAL SUBDIVISION. Four Seats. *Sir Francis Boys (C.A.). C. E. Cross (Ind.). *J. A. Flesher (C.A.). George Gould (C.A.). *A. Manhire (C.A.). WAIMAKARIRI EAST. One Seat. W. G. Chapman. W. P. Spencer. WAIMAKARIRI WEST. One Seat. *J. Leslie (elected unopposed). EYRE. One Seat. *R. O. Dixon (elected unopposed). CUST. One Seat. :: H. E. Evans (elected unopposed). sitting member. The Government nominees on the trust are Messrs J. Wood (chairman) and J. H. Blackwell.
