NEW ZEALAND WARSHIPS NOT GOING TO SAMOA.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 2. The sloops Veronica and Laburnum will leave Auckland to-morrow. Beyond an intimation that they may call at Russell the destination of the warships has not been disclosed. The two sloops of the New Zealand Navy, the Veronica and Laburnum, are not going to Samoa. They will leave Auckland to-morrow afternoon on a cruise of northern waters, the Laburnum is going to Russell and the Veronica to Whangaroa. Both are due back at Auckland on January 14. In giving those details to-night, Commodore Blake said the sloops were making their northern cruise earlier than usual, as they would have to be in Wellington in March to welcome the new Governor-General. WELLINGTON, January 2. It was authoritatively learned today that there is no connection between the movements of the Laburnum and Veronica and the recent disturbance in Samoa.
