KAIKOURA NEWS.

WEATHER FOR PAST YEAR. The following is the weather report recorded by Mr Glenn. Kaikoura, for the twelve months ending December 31: —The total rainfall for December was 6.06 in, rain falling on seven days. The maximum fall for the month was 3.83 in on December 23. During the same period last year rain fell on fifteen days, the maximum fall being 1.60 in on December 12. The total for the month was 7.63 in. Following is the rainfall summary for 1929:—January, number of rainy days 8, total for month 2.50 in; February 2, .30in; March 12, 2.57 in: April 15. 5.16 in; May 5,4.04 in; June 8,0.86 in; July 12, 3.03 in; August 5,5.44 in; September 9,2.74 in: October 6, ,27in; November 8, .86in: December 7,6.06 in; total days 100, total points 38.83 in. CARNIVAL DANCE. A carnival dance was held in the Suburban Hall on New Year's Eve There were about 130 couples present. “ Auld Lang Syne ” was sung at midnight. The Scottish Society, on their first footing refunds, called at the hall The musical one-step was won by Mr S. Wareham and Miss B. Barnes, and the lucky spot waltz by Mr W. Laugesen and Miss A. Smith. The musical stick was won by Miss M. Barker, and the Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr S. Wareham and Miss B. Barnes. Mr How gave a recitation, which was encored. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies. The music was supplied by Mr R. Clarke ( piano 1, Mr C. Reeves (drums and effects) and extras were played by Miss M. Wareham, Miss M. C.lemett, Mrs H. Chapman and Mrs W. Payne. Mr S. Sharpe was M.C. The guessing competition for a cushion was won by Mr A. Boyd. ATHLETIC CLUB’S DANCE. Following the sports meeting on New Year’s Day the Kaikoura Athletic and Cycling Club held a dance in the Drill Hall at night. There was a large attendance. The music was supplied by Messrs R Clarke (piano!, Breach (vioi'n), C. Reeves (drums and effects), Jenner fSwanee whistle), with extras by Miss M. Wareham.
