WOMEN TEACHERS HIGHLY INDIGNANT.
" WHY SHOULD NOT MEN WORK UNDER THEM? ” (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, January 1. The women teachers assembled in conference at Canterbury are highly indignant that there are men in their own profession who declare that they cannot work under a woman. Mrs F. Day, a member of the Central Council, asked: Why should they object? Prime Ministers have worked under Queens, public ser Ants to-day work under Miss Margaret Bondfield, soldiers followed Boadicea and Joan of Arc. The conference passed a resolution urging that all avenues of promotion should be open to women equally with men. The “ Daily Express,” in an editorial, supports the men. “ Few people, men or women,” the paper says, “ like working under a woman. The gift of using power and authority tactfully is rarely bestowed on women.”
