Lady Bell, Wellington, is a guest at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs F. Bartlett, Onehunga, are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs Kenneth Robinson, Fendalton, has returned from the West Coast. Mr and Mrs W. H. H indie, Wellington, are visiting Christchurch. Mrs Jack Francis (Auckland) is spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs H. Thompson, The Spur, Redcliffs. Miss Joan Maling (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp (“ Silverton,” Timaru). Mr and Mrs Harold Barker (Christchurch) are the guests of Mrs J. M. ! Barker (Woodbury). Miss Watson (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs Hugh Acland (Mount Peel). Mr and Mrs H. G. Livingstone, Riccarton, are spending a holiday at Lake Tekapo. Miss Bromley Cocks, Ranfurly Street, is spending a short holiday in Geraldine. Mrs W. 11. Simpson, Heaton Street, will return to Christchurch early next week from Cass. Mrs \Vattie and Miss Enid Wattie, Hawarden, are staying at New Brighton for the holidays. Mr and Mrs C. C. Odlin, of Wellington, are guests at the United Service Hotel. ' Mr and Mrs R. Cameron, Wellington, are staying at the United Service Hotel. Miss 11. B. Gould, of Christchurch, arrived in Auckland on Sunday by the Rangitata from England. Miss Gibbs and Miss Williamson, of Christchurch, are visitors to Auckland and are staying at Hotel Cargen. Mr and Mrs A. Morrison, who have been spending several weeks at Warner’s Hotel, ha\'e returned to Dunedin. Mrs C. C. Davis has returned to Avonside, Christchurch, from a visit to Auckland. Mrs Enright and Miss N. J. Enright, of Christchurch, arrived on Sunday by the Aorangi on their return from an overseas trip. Mrs Armstrong, of Christchurch, and Miss Armstrong arrived on Sunday in Auckland by the Rangitata from England. Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel include Mr and Mrs H. G. Copeland (Sydney) and Miss O. Mincher (Auckland). Mrs Gerald Bowen and Miss Christabel Bowen (Christchurch), who have been staying with Mrs R. F. Hill (Meremere Street) left yesterday to be the guests of Mrs W. H. Helmore (*‘Koromiko,” Timaru). The engagement is announced in a northern exchange of Linda Mary Bray, younger daughter of Mrs C. G. Downes and the late Mr A. J. Bray, of Te Awamutu, to the Rev Melville Newton, younger son of Mr and Mrs C. T Newton, of Christchurch. Latest arrivals at the Mount Pleasant Rest House include:—Mrs J. Parker, Mrs F. Metherell and the Misses Metherell, Mr and Mrs J. Polk, Miss L. Lovlaw, Mrs L. H. Griffiths, Mr and Mrs Brown and Mr V. Johansen, all of Christchurch. Sir Hall Caine, though now an old man with uncertain health, is as indomitable as ever. He contemplates a trip to Australia in the New Year to visit his cousin. Mrs W. T. Aldridge, iof Melbourne. Mrs Aldridge was the original of the heroine, Gloria Quayle, in his most famous novel. On January 2 the marriage of Myra Veronica, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. La very, Spreydon, to John Henry Glover (Jock) only son of Mr and Mrs H. Glover, Spreydon, was solemnised at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Addington. The Rev. Father McKeon officiated. The latest arrivals at the Hotel Federal include: Mr C. Smith, Mrs and Miss Smith (Petone), Mr K. Farmer (Nelson), Miss E. Shappard (Invercargill), Mr E. Wright (Tehakapa). Miss A.
