At the annual meeting of the American Amateur Athletic Union, at St Louis, on November 18, the 9 5-10 sec time for the 100yds, made bj r E. Tolan, American sprint champion, at Evanston, Illinois, on May 25, was approved, and approval may mean that the time will be accepted as the world’s record, for the “hundred”. The time was accepted unconditionally, since Tolan did not use starting blocks. It will be recommended for adoption by the International Amateur Athletic Federation, which now recognises performances registered by tenth-second watches.
