CIRCUS ANIMALS GO TO WELLINGTON.
Nothing eventful occurred this morning when the animals of Wirth’s Circus were loaded on board the Union Company’s steamer Katoa for shipment to Wellington. Evidently Jumbo, the elephant, did not enjoy the thought of the sea voyage, for he stopped and refused to budge when being taken up the gangway. After much prodding, he was persuaded to move off the sagging gangway to his quarters on deck. The other animals were loaded without trouble. Numbers of children were interested onlookers until the vessel departed.
